Hi there Rachel,

Oh, for sure, the best ghost writers can definitely get "in" the mindset of the person or business they're representing, and help that client grow because of it.

I guess the big "concern" is when the relationship ends badly (as in this case), and does it then impact negatively on the client?

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your example!

All great places to find content, I like to use the newspapers and tv for motivation sometimes, specially local municipal newspapers, they tend to have great content that inspires.

I am a social media manager and ghost writer. I just wrote my blog about outsourcing these kinds of efforts: http://bit.ly/qjaVab.
Even though I don't spend hours a day at the business, I feel like I was able to capture their voice and translate it to the audience. I find that the business owner appreciates the consistency more than anything.
Moreover, the client actually liked having someone that wasn’t a staff person managing the written content. It gave them a fresh perspective.

Great ideas, John, and awesome to see your company do this - so many are afraid of dissent and "negativity" outside their realm, so to invite it in? Brilliant - and a clear way to make a better product or service.

Cheers!

Creativity often creates new ways to establish relevancy Danny, good post. Was able to get a few ideas for post content from this blog entry and it motivates me to do more with video.

One idea I'd like to share that has been successful for me (I work in the tech sector and write a blog for my company) is to invite dissenter/naysayers of our technology to voice their opinion on our blog. It is often the highest read postings and demonstrates that we are open to letting folks voice their opinions and back it up with facts so everyone can understand their point of view. Also is a good conduit into writing a guest post on their blog to counterpoint or a follow up post on my own in response to their post. People seem to enjoy reading these posts and it prompts them to chip in with their own opinions.

I think the personality part is definitely a big factor in it, Mary - like you say, you like to think that the person is who she or he says they are.

How about a disclosed arrangement? Would you follow an account that says "Person X is behind these tweets" in the bio, for example, versus the person whose account it is?
